GUIDE to MiniFrontPage module 1 Year, 3 Months ago Karma: 14
MiniFrontPage module for Joomla! by templateplazza.com SIMPLE GUIDE!

QUOTE:
You want to show the Joomla! core home page into a module?
Great we have the solution: MiniFrontPage module from Templateplazza.com!

Here is the Guide...

How to install?

Download the newest version from there: http://www.templateplazza.com/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,67/func,fileinfo/id,78/

After install the module using Joomla! module installer… (If you don't now how to install a module find useful information there: http://help.joomla.org/content/view/1686/260/ )

The module is now installed but not published, so…

How to publish and set the module?

Open the Joomla! Modules from the menu Modules -> Site Modules
Now look for the “MiniFrontPage Module” and open it by clicking on the module title.
You should now have the module configuration and parameters…

I

First, lets look at the “Details” part:

Title: Insert there the tile you want to show in the top of the module!

Show title?: Select Yes if you want to show the module title or No if you don't want to. Note that if you choose NO the module will be without tile!

Position: You should select the position where you want your module to show up on the template. To know your joomla template module positions and see where they are located you can type this in a new page: http://www.yourjoomlasite.extension(com,pt,org...)/index.php?tp=1
Now you will see you positions and can set the position in the list!

Module order: Set the order this module will show up inside the position you've selected before.

Access Level: You can set to show this module to everyone or just to your registered users

Published: If you want the module to show up, set Yes!

Menu Item Link(s): Set the pages where you want to show the module. If you want to show in every page set “all”. if you want to show in one page select the page linked by a menu (you can select more than one page using the mouse+ctrl)

II

Lets look at Module Parameters:

Enable Cache: Set yes if you want to cache the content of the module or No if you don’t want to!

Module Class Suffix: You can set a suffix like “-blue” if your template have that option.

Section(s): Insert the sections IDs where you want the MiniFrontPage will look for the content items. Multiple IDs are allowed, just separate these ids by “,”! You can see the section ids in the front of section names using the Section Manager menu of Joomla!

Category(s): Insert the categories IDs where you want the MiniFrontPage will look for the content items. Multiple IDs are allowed, just separate these ids by “,”! You can see the category ids in the front of category names using the Category Manager menu of Joomla!

Order by: This will set whether you want to show the content items ordered by the newest (just like Latest News core module) or the most recent read (like Popular News core module).

Period of Novelty (Days): Set the number of days when the articles/contents will be considered NEW so after this time the articles/contents won't be showed up.

Show category title: Select Yes if you want to show up the category title of the item on the top of each introtext.

Frontpage Items: Select Yes if you want to show up the content items that are published in the front page too!

Display author: Select Yes if you want to show up the author of the articles below the title.

Display date articles created: Select Yes if you want to show up the article creation date below the title.

Limit intro text: Set the number of characters that introduction text of the articles will be show up.

Title Link: Select Yes if you want the title of the article will be a link to the full article page.

Full story link text: Insert title/text that will become a link to the full article.

Number of columns: Insert the number of columns where MiniFrontPage will be formatted/styled. Note, Num.of Col = Num.of introtext to show up + 1 column for another articles title link.

Number of Articles to display: Insert the number of articles that MiniFP will display. Note, number of articles = number of intro text set to display + article titles link for Another Article. For example if you set to show 10 articles and you have set to show (next parameter) 2 for articles intro text then the list on Another Articles will show 8 article titles link.

Number of Introtext: This will set the number of articles intro text to show up.

Show thumbnails: Select Yes if you want to show the thumbnails of the article image that have been set using mosimage mambot or inserted image that have been uploaded to the /images/stories/ folder. For MiniFP ver1.1, only the images that on the last inserted on the intro text or full text will be build as a thumbnail. And You better check the MiniFrontPage mean time update also on this forum, it will fix some of the thumbnail generation issues.

Thumbnail Image Width: Set the width of the thumbnail image;
Thumbnail Image height: Set the height of the thumbnail image;

Preserve Aspect: If you select this to Yes, the image will be thumbnailed based on the width value and the height will not be necessary calculated because thumb image height will be set according to the ratio of the original image!

Header Title for another articles link: Set the title text to show up above another articles link.

After set all the necessary parameters, don't forget to SAVE it and now your MiniFrontPage is up and running!

Regards ,

for minifrontpage, can you make multiple copies to put in more than one module position? Also, do you have to set both sections and categories? or can it just for section alone and leave blank for category?

Hi Mot Nguyen,

Of course you can, just like another modules, you can copy minifrontpage to accomodate another sections or categories items. You can set either section id and category ids or only section id. Just try those combination to experiments and report here if you find something.

Hi Erwin,

I see you are online. I was wondering how to place this module in frontpage (mainbody). I use silvero template and when I assign this module to position mainbody, nothing shows up. What could be a problem.

Hi Zee,

I believe what you meant by the 'mainbody' module position was a user1 or user2 or banner module positions (the one on the top of the mainbody), right Zee ?

So, you should assign the minifp to the user1 or user2 or banner module position, so it will display right before your mainbody area.
